Quilled Rakhi Tutorial:
With Raksha bandhan coming up, surprise your brother by making handmade rakhi for him. Here is an easy tutorial on how to make a handmade rakhi.
To make quilled rakhi, you will need:
1) 3mm Quilling strips
2) Quilling slotted tool
3) Glue
4) felt
5)rakhi thread, pearls n other embellishments
6) varnish
Procedure:
1) Roll quilling strip and make a basic closed coils. Pinch the basic coils at both ends to form a marquise shape. Stick them together as shown in image below.
2) Wrap the marquise shapes with a quilling strip to form a petal.
3) Arrange the petals and make a flower. After making a flower, apply 2 thin coats of clear varnish to make it water resistant. To make a base of rakhi, take a piece of felt. Draw two circles on it according to size of your rakhi.
4) Cut the circles drawn on felt.
5) On one circle, draw to small parallel lines at centre. With cutter/scissor make slit on those lines.
6) Pass the thread through the slits. Adjust you thread.
7) Overlap the other cirle and glue them. ( I use glue gun). Your rakhi felt base is ready.
8) Now glue quilled flowers on felt base. Here is your handmade quilled rakhi.
Here are some more ideas to make your quilled rakhis.
